As before the author is growing. I really liked the story. I am intrigued enough to purchase the next book in the series. They should be read in order, as I don't think they are meant to stand alone.
Editing still seems to be a problem. Also, I am not a historian and so cannot speak to historical accuracy.
I really enjoyed this whole series 1-9, so much so that I went ahead and bought some more of her books and am now currently enjoying the Wonderland series,
I am looking forward to the next book. This book was so exciting...especially at the end when sisters re-unite. Who would have thought?
In this sequel to The Hands of Time, Valerie's sister, Louisa, makes the life-changing decision to join Valerie in the 17th century. Louisa lands on the wrong continent in the wrong year but, despite it all, she and her sister meet in "the new world." After having read the first book, we are familiar with the characters and completely involved in their lives and this book is a seamless continuation of the story begun in The Hands of Time. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys time travel books and who wants to get lost in a good work of fiction for awhile.
This second book in Shapiro's time travel series about sisters Valerie and Louisa was even more exciting than the first one. It's a nice breezy read without too much historical data.
Characters are likable and plot moves briskly. Incidents seem to be rectified a bit quickly and predictably, but it's a novel, not a saga. I truly enjoyed this second book and look forward to the third.
I've been an Irina Shapiro fan for a while now and eagerly (and immediately) purchase every single one of her books. Until today, Precious Bones had been my favorite, but A Leap of Faith now holds the title.
You will definitely want to read The Hands of Time first to get your bearings. I also genuinely enjoyed the first book very much and love the author's use of history and time travel. The Hands of Time and A Leap of Faith are given a wonderful storyline, full of details and descriptive narration. In every one of Ms. Shapiro's books, I am captivated and drawn in, practically feeling like I'm wherever (and whenever) her characters are. I have an extremely difficult time putting the books down and feel compelled to read until I have finished.
I am so glad to see Ms. Shapiro really developing her talent as she releases each book. She's not afraid to take difficult roads (especially melancholy side stories), and I really liked the chapters taking us from one character's perspective to another. The reader truly feels and cares for the individuals in the book. I find myself cheering for their fortune and shedding tears for their adversities.
Excellent story, and I can't wait for her next!
Wow, a smooth transition from Book 1 - Hands of Time. Leap of Faith, Book 2 - couldn't put it down, even took it to work. I didn't realize there would be another sequel "A World Apart" to follow until the end - can't wait. It was easy to put oneself in either Valerie's or Louisa's place, it was written well. You could feel the emotions and circumstances of living in that era through them - I was surprised that Xmas trees weren't even in trend at that time. You really should read Hands of Time before you read this one, at last look that was a freebie. It lays the foundation and was a very exciting book to me. I had to hurry and get this book. Now I have to wait for the next book. If you like to read about time travelling for the magic of it, then read these books.
